Yousef, Committed To Making A Difference In The Society
Yousef, Head of CSR and Institutional Relations, talks about the evolution of CSR, and what role it plays in shaping the nation. Having previously worked with Total’s key partner Qatar Petroleum, Yousef re-asserts Total’s commitment to supporting the nation in its National vision 2030, especially when it comes to human development.
A history of excellence
“Following my high school graduation in the science sector, I was placed in the overall 4th ranking for Qatari students, which earned me an excellence award by His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani, the Father Emir of Qatar.
I joined Texas A&M University in Qatar’s Chemical Engineering module from 2003 to 2008, and was a part of the university’s first class of 30 students in Qatar. This was when I began to realize the important role being played by Qatar in unlocking human potential and bringing world class education to the country”.
Working with a state-owned Leader and an International Major
“After working for 5 years in Qatar Petroleum, I moved to Total. Working in an international environment is both challenging & rewarding in term of knowledge and growth. I found Total as an attractive choice due to its leadership in global CSR initiatives.
The move from a technical domain to the human part of business was very fulfilling”.
CSR is key to establishing relationships
"CSR makes a direct positive impact to those people impacted directly or indirectly by our business, especially the underprivileged. We look at it as a neighborly act which is not business driven but is important for us as it helps cities develop as communities.
In Qatar we have a strong focus building human capacities and in helping the economy become more knowledge based. Total realizes that the future of the country relies strongly on its people and we are strongly guided by Qatar National Vision 2030 and as such have committed to supporting initiatives for human, economic, social and environmental development.
By investing in the economy through our technological innovation; in education through sponsorship of students to obtain higher degrees in top universities in France and worldwide; in the environment through our CO2 conversion project, etc, we are in turn enhancing our local economy, which is our investment in the long run".
“My biggest inspiration is my family. When I make a decision, I think of my children and their future, of what I can do for them, for the next generation, how we can hand over the planet to them in a better way and give them a better life.”
