Total is very proud of its longstanding partnership with Qatar spanning over 80 years (since 1936), and its cooperation with Qatar Petroleum which includes the development of world-class LNG, refining and petrochemical projects.
We began our upstream operations on the Al-Khalij oil field in 1991. In February 2014, Total and Qatar Petroleum set up a new joint venture to further develop the field over the next 25 years. Total is the founding partner of Qatargas, the world’s largest LNG producer, owning interests in Qatargas 1 and Qatargas 2. We are also a leading partner in Dolphin Energy. Total Refining & Petrochemicals has stakes in both Qatar Petrochemicals Company (QAPCO), operating a petrochemical complex manufacturing ethylene and low-density polyethylene and QATOFIN. Total is a partner in the Ras Laffan refinery and also sells lubricants.
Supporting Qatar National Vision 2030
Total has undertaken various joint initiatives with Qatar Petroleum, the Qatar Foundation and Qatar University to support the development of high-quality education programs in Qatar. Such initaitives include The Total Sponsorship Program, which sponsors talented employees to complete their master degree studies in France's top universities., the Total Professors Associates programme, Total Summer School in Paris, and AlReyada aimed at college students, providing opportunity to combine lectures and workshops with team-building exercises and networking opportunities.
Total also sponsors lectures by Total experts to students at universities under the Total Professors Associates programme.
Total has also invested in a research center in the Qatar Science & Technology Park since 2009 to help Qatar develop its energy R&D capabilities and foster a knowledge-based economy.
